Total volume of organic waste produced last year (tons)
In 2023, National Chiayi University (NCYU) generated a total of 82.185 metric tons of organic waste, mainly from used cooking oil, food waste, paper waste, and fallen branches/leaves. Due to NCYU’s extensive campus greenery and wide tree coverage, fallen leaves represented the second largest category, following paper waste, which remains the primary contributor. All organic waste was properly processed at an almost 100% treatment rate through appropriate collection, recycling, and composting. These measures reflect NCYU’s continuous improvement in organic waste management and its commitment to reducing paper use and promoting circular resource utilization in alignment with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
