Smart Building Implementation
Smart Building Implementation
National Chiayi University (NCYU) has achieved a high level of smart building implementation, with 75.91% of total campus floor area equipped with smart control and monitoring systems. Smart buildings across the Lantan, Sinmin, Minsyong, and Linsen campuses are integrated with Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy and Water Management Systems, fire safety and security monitoring, LED lighting with motion sensors, and CO₂ and thermo-hygrometric monitoring for optimal indoor comfort. The university’s Library and Information Building, Science and Engineering Hall, and College of Management Building serve as flagship examples, integrating ICT-based energy management, rainwater harvesting, and natural lighting designs to enhance energy efficiency. Each building is equipped with at least five smart functions, including automation, safety, energy-saving, water management, and intelligent lighting systems. In 2024–2025, NCYU continued phased upgrades to dormitories and academic buildings to meet smart building standards. Notably, the university secured the nation’s top funding grant from Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior under the Energy Efficiency and Near-Zero Emission Building Demonstration Program. This project focuses on renewable energy integration, energy storage, BEMS upgrades, and HVAC optimization in the College of Management, aiming for 20–25% energy savings and supporting NCYU’s 2050 goal of full energy self-sufficiency.
Through these integrated measures, NCYU advances toward a near-zero carbon campus, aligning with SDG 7.3 (Improve Energy Efficiency) and SDG 13.2 (Climate Action Integration).
