Every building in each of the four campuses has lawns on the outside and around the squares. The grounds of the parking lots all use permeable bricks. Especially the slopes in the Lantan campus are also covered with permeable turf paving. The walkways, in addition to cement or bituminous paving, are also fitted with permeable brick paths to match the on-campus landscape. The total area of water absorption, besides the forest and planted vegetation, for each campus is summarized in the table below. Of particular note, in 2024, the Chiayi City Government, in collaboration with National Chiayi University and the Irrigation Agency, revitalized and integrated Daojiang Canal, Minsheng Park, and NCYU’s Sinmin Campus. This transformation created the “twin parks” connection—an over one-kilometer-long Daojiang Canal Green Corridor (around 65,000 m2, link 3), embodying the imagery of “green living” and the beauty of ecology. The corridor emphasizes ecological conservation and is enriched with culture, education, joy, and vitality. This project demonstrates the success of green infrastructure co-constructed by the campus and the community, specifically addressing SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 13 Climate Action. The total area on campus for water absorption, besides the forest and planted vegetation, constitutes 48.66% of the entire campus area.
