Total volume of inorganic waste produced last year
In 2023, National Chiayi University implemented a campus-wide inorganic waste management system that ensures each type of waste is properly collected, weighed, and recycled. Inorganic waste mainly includes scrap iron, tin and aluminum cans, plastic waste, PET bottles, stainless-steel materials, waste lighting illuminants, cables, batteries, glass, and other electronic components. Trained staff collect the waste from different campuses, bring it to the recycling center, and record the weight of each category for annual reporting. All recyclables are sorted at designated areas to ensure accurate data and efficient resource reuse. Construction materials are also reused to reduce inorganic waste generation. Excess soil, gravel, and building materials from renovation projects are uniformly collected and reapplied in other on-campus construction works by the Office of General Affairs’ Maintenance and Repair Team. Through these measures, the total amount of inorganic waste generated in 2023 was 42.14 tons, marking a continued effort to optimize waste segregation and material recovery.
These actions are jointly supervised by the Environmental Protection and Safety Management Center and the Office of General Affairs, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through responsible resource management and campus sustainability.
