Water-efficient appliance usage
National Chiayi University has implemented a comprehensive Water-Efficient Appliance Replacement Program across all campuses. Traditional manual faucets and conventional flushing systems have been systematically replaced with water-saving equipment to reduce water consumption and promote sustainable campus operations.
· Automatic sensor faucets and low-flow taps are installed in all washstands to minimize unnecessary water flow.
· Sensor urinal flushers have been adopted in all men’s and accessible toilets.
· Two-stage flushing systems are fully installed in women’s toilets to provide user-controlled water efficiency.
· New buildings and renovated facilities are required to include certified water-saving fixtures as part of campus construction standards.
With these measures, more than 80% of the water fixtures on campus are water-efficient types, achieving full compliance with Taiwan’s green building and water conservation standards. This initiative supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by reducing potable water use and fostering sustainable behavior among students and staff.
