In 2024, National Chiayi University (NCYU) organized 44 sustainability-related community service activities, engaging a total of 4,311 student participants. These initiatives—led by volunteer teams, student clubs, and academic departments—integrated social care, environmental protection, and sustainable development education into community engagement practices. Key highlights include the Agronomy Volunteer Team’s “Rural Life Camp”, which promoted food sustainability and agricultural education for over 100 elementary students; the Plant Medicine Department’s outreach program on sustainable pest management for pomelo growers in southern Taiwan; and the Landscape Architecture students’ award-winning rural revitalization projects, which revitalized aging communities through art and intergenerational engagement. Other initiatives featured AI and metaverse technology camps for rural youth organized by the Department of Information Management, and USR Hub microfilm projects that earned national recognition for promoting sustainability through community-based storytelling. Together, these activities exemplify NCYU’s strong commitment to integrating education, service, and sustainability, advancing SDG 4.7 (education for sustainable development), SDG 10.2 (social inclusion), and SDG 11.3 (sustainable communities) through student-led action and public participation.
