Total number of cars on campus and the LPR system
In 2024, National Chiayi University (NCYU) recorded a total of 1,478 fuel vehicles (cars and motorcycles) entering all campuses per day, as monitored by the newly implemented License Plate Recognition (LPR) System installed at each main gate. Among these, the university itself manages 12 fuel cars and 8 motorcycles, while 49 electric scooters are provided for official use by administrative and maintenance units. NCYU’s total campus population is 12,179, resulting in a vehicle-to-population ratio of 0.121. This relatively low ratio reflects the university’s strict traffic management and sustainability policies. Motorcycles are not allowed to enter the campus, and all internal mobility relies on electric scooters, bicycles, and walking routes. In addition, NCYU continuously promotes low-carbon transportation by:
· Expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at major parking areas;
· Encouraging carpooling and public transport use for students and staff;
· Integrating smart parking management through the LPR data system;
· Establishing vehicle-free and pedestrian-friendly zones to improve air quality and campus safety.
Through these efforts, NCYU effectively controls fuel vehicle entry, reduces emissions, and advances the transition toward green and sustainable mobility, supporting SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
