The Establishment of Intelligent Street Lights and management system
National Chiayi University (NCYU) integrates Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into every stage of its campus Setting and Infrastructure (SI) programs—from planning and implementation to monitoring and evaluation—to ensure data-driven, transparent, and sustainable operations. Through the use of IoT-based systems, real-time dashboards, and GIS mapping platforms, NCYU effectively manages campus resources such as energy, water, and waste. ICT applications include QGIS for spatial and open-space planning, ISO 50001 energy management software for energy forecasting, and smart water-resource systems that utilize digital meters and sensors for rainwater harvesting, reuse control, and leakage detection. In terms of implementation, NCYU has established smart street lighting systems, digital power management, and Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) connected to data platforms to monitor recycling behaviors. These tools are complemented by a university-wide Energy Management System and ICT-based performance review mechanism under the Energy Conservation & Carbon Reduction Committee, which conducts semester evaluations for continuous improvement. ICT-based dashboards automatically consolidate data on electricity consumption, solar PV generation, hydrogen pilot station operation, and carbon reduction performance. All programs have been implemented, evaluated, and are continuously revised to ensure long-term alignment with NCYU’s sustainability goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
