AEM Stack Cell for Hydrogen Production/Green Hydrogen House
Wood Pellets
In 2023, National Chiayi University not only continued to install solar panels within the campus but also set up sun-tracking solar panels and two wind power generation systems on the rooftop of the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering. These systems generate approximately 4,175,110 kWh annually, The Department of Applied Chemistry is concurrently developing an AEM stack cell (750L/h) water electrolysis hydrogen production system and will convert the excess hydrogen generated from the experiments into electricity using fuel cells. A total of 50 units have been installed across the campus, and a Green Hydrogen House has been established, utilizing solar energy as the power source for water electrolysis. This system can increase the annual green electricity output by 91,250 kWh. All of those power are utilized in the department's classrooms. The Department of Wood Materials and Design uses thinned wood from the campus forest and pruned branches from campus trees to produce wood pellets for combustion and power generation (2500 kWh). The production scale is currently small, but there are plans to expand and assist in processing orchard wood waste from Chiayi County and the City. All green electricity is used for various venue facilities.
